Built-ins in Oakville
Oakville runs from large houses south of Lakeshore and older pockets in Bronte to newer open plan subdivisions north of the highway, plus downtown condos. Older houses with chimney breasts and alcoves are made for built-ins; newer rooms with flat walls gain a place for them from a run of shelving with a lit centre. Built-ins are cabinets and shelving fixed to the room, drawn to the walls they sit against and scribed on site.

Oakville, on the ground.
Kitchens, butler's pantries, dressing rooms, wine storage and whole house millwork are the Oakville norm. Boxes are built and finished in the shop, delivered and scribed to the alcove over [n] days.
Houses in Oakville that have been renovated before often have floors out of level, so runs are set off a datum line and the plinth is scribed.

No figures published. The drivers, in order.
| Driver | What we look at |
|---|---|
| Linear feet and shelf count | Open shelving is the lightest line; closed cabinets with doors and drawers add parts. |
| Site conditions | Chimney breasts, sloped ceilings and out-of-square alcoves add scribing time. |
| Door construction and finish | Painted shaker at one end, veneer or fluted fronts at the other. |
| Lighting and stone | Lit shelves and a stone top on a console add wiring and a fabricator. |
Paint colour and hardware are the smallest lines. Site conditions and what the piece hides set the number.
Asked before the first call.
Do you build alcove units in Oakville?
Yes. Alcove built-ins either side of a chimney breast are one of the most common jobs in Oakville. Each side is measured separately and drawn as a pair.
Are built-ins in Oakville painted on site?
No. Everything is sprayed in our shop, so the room stays clean and the finish is smoother. Scribe edges are touched up after fitting.
We want the veneer to run continuously across the doors. Can you do that?
Yes. Sequence-matched veneer is ordered as a set and laid out so the grain carries across a run, then cut and finished in that order. It has to be planned at the drawing stage, because the door sizes fix the layout. We mark the sequence on the elevations and dry-fit the whole run in the shop.
Our unit is in a condo downtown. How does delivery work?
Through the loading dock and the service elevator, with the elevator booked ahead and the cab padded. Buildings differ, so we ask for the property manager contact early and work to their rules on hours and insurance. [Typical condo building delivery rules and booking notice.] Old cabinets leave by the same route.
