Custom cabinetry in Vaughan
Valmont designs, builds and installs custom cabinetry in Vaughan: kitchens, sculleries, wall units, closets and vanities. Woodbridge, Maple, Thornhill and Kleinburg are rebuild country, so many of the calls are new houses with nine or ten foot main floor ceilings and a kitchen wall running the length of the room. A wall that long needs a plan for the joints, the reveals and where the door widths change, or the finished run reads as a fence.

Two kitchens in one house is common here: the main kitchen out front and a working kitchen or scullery behind it with the second range and the heavy storage. We design them as one package so the door profile and the hardware carry through the doorway. The back kitchen takes the tall pantry banks, and the front room keeps a clean sightline with panelled appliances. Both sets of elevations come at step two, with the rendering.
Thornhill and older Maple still have postwar houses that were never rebuilt, with eight foot ceilings, bulkheads and smaller rooms, and those get the same treatment as any older house: scribe allowance, site-cut fillers and tall units that stop under the bulkhead. Whichever house it is, every box, door and drawer front is cut, edged and finished in our shop in Richmond Hill, then dry-fitted before it goes on the truck.
A Vaughan kitchen wall is often long enough that the reveals and the rhythm of door widths decide how the room reads, so both are set in the elevations.
Vaughan is mostly recent builds and tear-down rebuilds through Woodbridge, Maple and Kleinburg with nine and ten foot ceilings, plus older postwar pockets in Thornhill.
New houses have wide driveways, double garages and level entries, so a full kitchen can be delivered and staged indoors on one trip.

We are building in Kleinburg. Can you work from the architect's drawings?
We start from them and then measure the framed opening ourselves before cutting. Drawings and framing usually differ by enough to matter across a long run. The site measure is taken after drywall and before flooring where the schedule allows, and we note who is supplying and templating the counter.
Should the back kitchen match the main kitchen?
It should relate rather than match. Most Vaughan clients keep the same door profile and hardware and change the finish, so the working room takes a harder wearing surface. Both rooms appear in the rendering, seen through the doorway, which is how you will usually look at them.
How do you keep a very long cabinet run from looking flat?
By breaking it up in the drawing. A tall bank at one end, a change of depth over the range, an open or glass fronted section, panelled appliances so the metal does not interrupt the line, and consistent reveals so every gap reads as deliberate. All of it is shown in elevation before a single part is cut.
