Custom cabinetry in Burlington
Valmont designs, builds and installs custom cabinetry in Burlington: kitchens, laundry rooms, closets, media walls and condo millwork. The city gives us two very different jobs. In Aldershot and the older neighbourhoods the houses are postwar or earlier, sitting on wide lots, and the kitchens are being opened up. Downtown and along the lake the work is in condos, where the room is smaller, the walls are concrete and the delivery is booked rather than driven up to the door.

Condo cabinetry rewards precision. Openings are fixed, bulkheads hide services that cannot move, and anchoring into concrete or steel stud has to be planned rather than improvised on the day. We measure the unit after any demolition, confirm what the building allows and build to those numbers. In the houses the freedom is greater and the discipline is different: an opened wall changes the ceiling line, so the tall run is drawn against the new bulkhead, not the old one.
All of it is cut, edged and finished in our own shop and dry-fitted before it ships. Kam designs and builds; the crew measures, delivers and installs. Elevations and a photorealistic 3D rendering come at step two, before material is ordered, and the quote lists each run separately, so a closet or a media wall can move to a later phase without the kitchen being redrawn.

Our condo board has rules about renovations. Do you deal with that?
We work to the building's requirements: a booked service elevator, protected common areas, agreed working hours and whatever insurance the property manager asks for. You or your property manager supplies the rules and the approval, and we supply the documents they request. [Typical condo building delivery rules and notice period.]
We are taking down a wall in Aldershot. When should you measure?
After the wall is out and the new framing and ceiling are in, then again after drywall if anything moved. Measuring earlier gives us a drawing, not a cut list. Design can start at any point, but the shop does not cut until the final measure is taken on the finished opening.
Can you build a media wall around a fireplace?
Yes. We need the fireplace model and its clearance requirements first, because those set how close any combustible material can sit and where the vent runs. Around that we draw cabinets, shelving and a panelled section for the screen, with cable routes and ventilation for equipment built into the boxes.
