Custom cabinetry in Newmarket
Valmont designs, builds and installs custom cabinetry in Newmarket: kitchens, pantries, mudrooms, closets and basement millwork. The Main Street area has older frame and brick houses with small rooms and low basements, while most of the town is family subdivision housing. The two need different drawings. One is a fitting exercise in a room that has moved over the years, the other is a layout problem in a room that is already square and level.

Basements take a good share of the work here. Headroom under the ducts is the number that decides the design, so it is measured first, and tall units are kept clear of the beam line. A basement kitchenette or a wall unit is built in sections that clear the stair turn, then jointed on site. Where the floor has been levelled with a topping, the plinth is set only after the finished floor height is confirmed.
Upstairs the standard job is a kitchen with an island and a pantry, plus a mudroom off the garage. Ceilings are eight feet in the older subdivisions and nine in the newer ones, which decides whether a tall unit is a single door or a door with a lift up cabinet above it. All of it is cut, edged and finished in our shop in Richmond Hill and dry-fitted before delivery, and the quote is itemized line by line.

Our basement ceiling is low. Is a built-in still worth doing?
Usually, yes, because a low room reads better with storage that stops at one consistent height than with freestanding furniture at four different heights. We set the top of the run under the lowest duct and carry that line across the whole wall, which makes the ceiling look intentional rather than cramped.
Can the cabinetry be brought down our basement stairs?
That is checked at the measure. We take the stair width, the headroom over the flight and the turn at the bottom, then build the run in sections that clear it. Joints between sections are placed where a stile falls, so they are not obvious once the doors are hung.
How far ahead do we need to book a Newmarket install?
The drawings and your approval come first, then the shop build takes [n] weeks, and the install is booked from the end of that. The site has to be ready as well: finished floor down, walls painted and services roughed in. [Kam confirms current booking lead time.]
