Mudrooms in Newmarket
Newmarket combines older frame and brick houses with low basements near Main Street and family subdivision housing spread around them. Older homes usually give a back hall or a landing to work with, while newer builds hand over a purpose-built mudroom between the garage and the kitchen. A mudroom is lockers, a bench and tall storage built to take boots, coats and daily traffic without looking worn in a year.

In Newmarket basements the usable height is set by the ducts, so the top of the run is carried at one line across the whole wall.

Can a mudroom be built into a narrow back hall in Newmarket?
Often yes. A shallow run of hooks, a bench and a tall unit at one end works in a hall where full lockers would block the path. We measure the clear width at step 01 and draw the shallowest version that still holds coats and boots.
Do you build around the garage door threshold?
Yes. The threshold, the step and the door swing are recorded at the measure, and the plinth and end panel are drawn to clear them. Nothing is cut until you have seen it in the rendering.
Our basement ceiling is low. Is a built-in still worth doing?
Usually, yes, because a low room reads better with storage that stops at one consistent height than with freestanding furniture at four different heights. We set the top of the run under the lowest duct and carry that line across the whole wall, which makes the ceiling look intentional rather than cramped.
Can the cabinetry be brought down our basement stairs?
That is checked at the measure. We take the stair width, the headroom over the flight and the turn at the bottom, then build the run in sections that clear it. Joints between sections are placed where a stile falls, so they are not obvious once the doors are hung.
