Built-ins in Newmarket
Built-ins are cabinets and shelving fixed to the room, drawn to the walls they sit against and scribed on site. Newmarket combines older frame and brick houses with low basements near Main Street and family subdivision housing spread around them. Older houses with chimney breasts and alcoves are made for built-ins; newer rooms with flat walls gain a place for them from a run of shelving with a lit centre.

Garage and driveway access is easy in the subdivisions, and the constraint indoors is usually the basement stair turn rather than the front door. Boxes are built and finished in the shop, delivered and scribed to the alcove over [n] days.
In Newmarket basements the usable height is set by the ducts, so the top of the run is carried at one line across the whole wall.

Do you build alcove units in Newmarket?
Yes. Alcove built-ins either side of a chimney breast are one of the most common jobs in Newmarket. Each side is measured separately and drawn as a pair.
Are built-ins in Newmarket painted on site?
No. Everything is sprayed in our shop, so the room stays clean and the finish is smoother. Scribe edges are touched up after fitting.
How far ahead do we need to book a Newmarket install?
The drawings and your approval come first, then the shop build takes [n] weeks, and the install is booked from the end of that. The site has to be ready as well: finished floor down, walls painted and services roughed in. [Kam confirms current booking lead time.]
Our basement ceiling is low. Is a built-in still worth doing?
Usually, yes, because a low room reads better with storage that stops at one consistent height than with freestanding furniture at four different heights. We set the top of the run under the lowest duct and carry that line across the whole wall, which makes the ceiling look intentional rather than cramped.
