Custom cabinetry in North York
Valmont designs, builds and installs custom cabinetry in North York: kitchens, butler pantries, wall units, closets and vanities. Two very different houses call from the same street. One is a postwar bungalow with a small closed kitchen and a plaster ceiling. The other is a rebuild on the lot beside it, framed with nine or ten foot ceilings and a long clear wall waiting for a kitchen. The design work is not the same, so the site measure comes before any drawing.

On the rebuilds around Willowdale and Bayview the run is long enough to need a plan for the sightline: appliance panels on the fridge and the dishwasher, a tall bank landing on a clean line at one end, and an island set out so the walkway clears on both sides. A ceiling at that height takes either a second row of doors above the uppers or a deeper crown. We draw both and you choose from the rendering.
In the bungalows that stay, the constraint is the bulkhead and the plaster. Walls floated by hand are not flat, so every end panel gets a scribe and the fillers are oversized. We take the measurements ourselves, build in our shop in Richmond Hill, dry-fit the run there, then deliver and install. Quotes are itemized line by line, so the island, the pantry and the appliance panels each sit on their own line and can be adjusted on their own.
A new build in North York allows one long uninterrupted run, so the decisions are about reveals, panel widths and ceiling height rather than working around what is already there.
North York holds postwar bungalows with plaster and bulkheads on the same streets as new two-storey rebuilds with nine and ten foot ceilings.
Lots are wide and driveways are deep, so a delivery truck can park on site and boxes go straight in through the front or garage door.

We are rebuilding in North York. When should we bring you in?
As soon as the framing plan is settled and before the plumbing and electrical are roughed in. Cabinetry drives outlet heights, the sink and dishwasher positions and the size of the opening over the range. Coming in at that point avoids moving services after the walls close.
Our new kitchen has ten foot ceilings. What goes above the upper cabinets?
Three usual answers: run the uppers full height and accept a step stool for the top row, add a shorter second row of doors with a reveal between them, or stop the uppers and finish with a deeper crown. Each is drawn against your measured ceiling height so you can judge the proportion.
Can you make the fridge and dishwasher disappear into the cabinetry?
Yes, with appliance panels. The appliance has to be panel ready, so we need the model before the run is designed: hinge side, panel weight and door thickness all change the box and the reveal around it. Send us the spec sheet at the drawing stage.
