Built-ins in North York
Lots are wide and driveways are deep, so a delivery truck can park on site and boxes go straight in through the front or garage door. Boxes are built and finished in the shop, delivered and scribed to the alcove over [n] days. Built-ins are cabinets and shelving fixed to the room, drawn to the walls they sit against and scribed on site.

North York, on the ground.
North York holds postwar bungalows with plaster and bulkheads on the same streets as new two-storey rebuilds with nine and ten foot ceilings. Older houses with chimney breasts and alcoves are made for built-ins; newer rooms with flat walls gain a place for them from a run of shelving with a lit centre. Full kitchens with islands and butler pantries lead here, along with mudrooms, walk-in closets and fitted wall units.
A new build in North York allows one long uninterrupted run, so the decisions are about reveals, panel widths and ceiling height rather than working around what is already there.

No figures published. The drivers, in order.
| Driver | What we look at |
|---|---|
| Linear feet and shelf count | Open shelving is the lightest line; closed cabinets with doors and drawers add parts. |
| Site conditions | Chimney breasts, sloped ceilings and out-of-square alcoves add scribing time. |
| Door construction and finish | Painted shaker at one end, veneer or fluted fronts at the other. |
| Lighting and stone | Lit shelves and a stone top on a console add wiring and a fabricator. |
Paint colour and hardware are the smallest lines. Site conditions and what the piece hides set the number.
Asked before the first call.
Do you build alcove units in North York?
Yes. Alcove built-ins either side of a chimney breast are one of the most common jobs in North York. Each side is measured separately and drawn as a pair.
Are built-ins in North York painted on site?
No. Everything is sprayed in our shop, so the room stays clean and the finish is smoother. Scribe edges are touched up after fitting.
We are rebuilding in North York. When should we bring you in?
As soon as the framing plan is settled and before the plumbing and electrical are roughed in. Cabinetry drives outlet heights, the sink and dishwasher positions and the size of the opening over the range. Coming in at that point avoids moving services after the walls close.
Our new kitchen has ten foot ceilings. What goes above the upper cabinets?
Three usual answers: run the uppers full height and accept a step stool for the top row, add a shorter second row of doors with a reveal between them, or stop the uppers and finish with a deeper crown. Each is drawn against your measured ceiling height so you can judge the proportion.
