Built-ins in Vaughan

Built-ins are cabinets and shelving fixed to the room, drawn to the walls they sit against and scribed on site. Vaughan is mostly recent builds and tear-down rebuilds through Woodbridge, Maple and Kleinburg with nine and ten foot ceilings, plus older postwar pockets in Thornhill. Older houses with chimney breasts and alcoves are made for built-ins; newer rooms with flat walls gain a place for them from a run of shelving with a lit centre.

Built-ins · Vaughan

Vaughan, on the ground.

New houses have wide driveways, double garages and level entries, so a full kitchen can be delivered and staged indoors on one trip. Boxes are built and finished in the shop, delivered and scribed to the alcove over [n] days.

A Vaughan kitchen wall is often long enough that the reveals and the rhythm of door widths decide how the room reads, so both are set in the elevations.

Built-ins questions from Vaughan

Asked before the first call.

Do you build alcove units in Vaughan?

Yes. Alcove built-ins either side of a chimney breast are one of the most common jobs in Vaughan. Each side is measured separately and drawn as a pair.

Are built-ins in Vaughan painted on site?

No. Everything is sprayed in our shop, so the room stays clean and the finish is smoother. Scribe edges are touched up after fitting.

How do you keep a very long cabinet run from looking flat?

By breaking it up in the drawing. A tall bank at one end, a change of depth over the range, an open or glass fronted section, panelled appliances so the metal does not interrupt the line, and consistent reveals so every gap reads as deliberate. All of it is shown in elevation before a single part is cut.

We are building in Kleinburg. Can you work from the architect's drawings?

We start from them and then measure the framed opening ourselves before cutting. Drawings and framing usually differ by enough to matter across a long run. The site measure is taken after drywall and before flooring where the schedule allows, and we note who is supplying and templating the counter.
