Scugog, on the ground.
Scugog centres on Port Perry's heritage streets and the houses ringing Lake Scugog, many of them added to over the years. Older houses with chimney breasts and alcoves are made for built-ins; newer rooms with flat walls gain a place for them from a run of shelving with a lit centre. Narrow halls and turning stairs in the older village houses decide whether tall units ship in one piece or two. Boxes are built and finished in the shop, delivered and scribed to the alcove over [n] days.
Lakeside rooms in Scugog have little solid wall, so storage moves into deep drawers and a single tall run.

Do you build alcove units in Scugog?
Yes. Alcove built-ins either side of a chimney breast are one of the most common jobs in Scugog. Each side is measured separately and drawn as a pair.
Are built-ins in Scugog painted on site?
No. Everything is sprayed in our shop, so the room stays clean and the finish is smoother. Scribe edges are touched up after fitting.
Our Port Perry house has a narrow hall and a turning stair. Is that a problem?
It is a measurement, not a problem. We take the hall width, the stair turn and the ceiling at the landing, then build anything that will not fit in one piece as sections joined on site. The joint lands on a reveal, so it reads as part of the design rather than a repair.
The kitchen looks at the lake and has almost no wall space. Where does the storage go?
Downward. Deep drawers hold more than uppers do and they do not interrupt a window line. We usually add one tall run on the single solid wall, put the microwave or the coffee setup behind a door there, and keep the window wall to counter and a low backsplash.
