Built-ins in Caledon
Built-ins are cabinets and shelving fixed to the room, drawn to the walls they sit against and scribed on site. Caledon has estate builds, converted stone and brick farmhouses and country houses around Bolton and Caledon East, with rooms larger than the regional average. Older houses with chimney breasts and alcoves are made for built-ins; newer rooms with flat walls gain a place for them from a run of shelving with a lit centre.

Rural driveways are long and there is space to park a truck and unload in one go, so the run arrives complete rather than in stages. Boxes are built and finished in the shop, delivered and scribed to the alcove over [n] days.
Older houses in Caledon have thick walls and floors that fall away, so levels are taken across the full run and the plinth carries the difference.

Do you build alcove units in Caledon?
Yes. Alcove built-ins either side of a chimney breast are one of the most common jobs in Caledon. Each side is measured separately and drawn as a pair.
Are built-ins in Caledon painted on site?
No. Everything is sprayed in our shop, so the room stays clean and the finish is smoother. Scribe edges are touched up after fitting.
The floor in our farmhouse kitchen is not level. How do you deal with that?
We shoot levels along the whole run at the measure. Base cabinets are built square and set on a levelling plinth, so the counter comes out flat and the fall is taken up in the plinth. The plinth is then scribed to the floor and finished, which is why it is built taller at the low end.
What is a scullery and do we need one?
It is a working room behind the kitchen holding the second sink, the dishwasher, the small appliances and the bulk storage, so the main kitchen stays clear. On a Caledon plan with the room to spare it is the single change that keeps the kitchen usable when there are people standing in it.
