Custom millwork in Whitby
Whitby ranges from older downtown houses with plaster and narrow stairs to recent subdivisions in Brooklin and the south end. Century houses ask for panelling that follows existing trim and scribes to plaster; newer houses ask for feature walls and built-ins that give a plain room a centre. Custom millwork is anything built for a specific room that a catalogue cannot supply: built-ins, panelling, feature walls, concealed doors.

Whitby, on the ground.
Kitchens, islands, mudrooms and closet build-outs are the steady work in Whitby. Panels and boxes are cut and finished in the shop, dry-fitted, then delivered and scribed to your walls and ceilings on site.
Open plans in newer parts of Whitby leave cabinet backs and ends in full view, so those faces are finished like fronts.

No figures published. The drivers, in order.
| Driver | What we look at |
|---|---|
| Square footage of finished face | Millwork is priced by the finished surface and the number of parts behind it. |
| Material and finish | Painted MDF panels sit at one end; sequence-matched walnut and solid fluting at the other. |
| Site conditions | Out-of-square walls, sloped ceilings and bulkheads add scribing and site time. |
| Hidden function | Concealed doors, lighting, drawers behind panels and stone all add parts and trades. |
The number comes from the drawings, line by line. Colour and hardware are the smallest lines on a millwork quote.
Asked before the first call.
Do you take small millwork jobs in Whitby?
Yes. A single built-in, a window seat or one panelled wall in Whitby goes through the same measure, drawing and shop build as a whole kitchen.
Can millwork in Whitby match my kitchen finish?
Yes. If we built the kitchen the finish comes from the same deck and veneer lot. If someone else did, bring a door and we match the colour or species from a sample.
Do you work in Brooklin as well as Whitby proper?
Yes, Brooklin is part of Whitby and we work throughout the town. Newer Brooklin houses tend to have 9 ft main floors and larger kitchens, so the drawings lean toward tall units and longer islands. The design process, the shop build and the install run identically in both.
Our downtown house has a tight stair. Will a tall cabinet fit up it?
We check the stair, the turn and the ceiling height at the landing during the measure. Where a one-piece tall unit will not make the turn, we build it as two stacked sections with the joint on a reveal. It is a normal solution, it is planned in the shop, and it does not weaken the unit.
