Custom millwork in Scarborough

Scarborough is largely postwar bungalows and side-splits with closed kitchens, wide lots and limited basement headroom. Century houses ask for panelling that follows existing trim and scribes to plaster; newer houses ask for feature walls and built-ins that give a plain room a centre. Custom millwork is anything built for a specific room that a catalogue cannot supply: built-ins, panelling, feature walls, concealed doors.

Custom millwork · Scarborough

Scarborough, on the ground.

Kitchens, basement bars and wall units, laundry rooms and bathroom vanities make up most of the Scarborough work. Panels and boxes are cut and finished in the shop, dry-fitted, then delivered and scribed to your walls and ceilings on site.

In Scarborough the usable height in a basement is set by the ducts rather than the joists, so we measure the lowest point in the room before drawing anything.

Material and finishPainted MDF panels sit at one end; sequence-matched walnut and solid fluting at the other.
Site conditionsOut-of-square walls, sloped ceilings and bulkheads add scribing and site time.
Hidden functionConcealed doors, lighting, drawers behind panels and stone all add parts and trades.

Custom millwork questions from Scarborough

Asked before the first call.

Do you take small millwork jobs in Scarborough?

Yes. A single built-in, a window seat or one panelled wall in Scarborough goes through the same measure, drawing and shop build as a whole kitchen.

Can millwork in Scarborough match my kitchen finish?

Yes. If we built the kitchen the finish comes from the same deck and veneer lot. If someone else did, bring a door and we match the colour or species from a sample.

My basement has ducts running across the ceiling. Can I still get a built-in bar down there?

Yes. We measure to the underside of the lowest duct and design the bar to that height, then either box the duct in with a matching panel or stop the uppers short and add a single shelf. The shop build starts once the layout is approved and takes [n] weeks.

Do you replace just the doors, or the whole kitchen?

We build complete cabinetry: boxes, doors and drawer fronts, all made in our own shop and dry-fitted before delivery. Refacing an existing carcass is not what we do, because in a kitchen of that age the box is usually the part that has failed, not the door.
