Mudrooms in York (Toronto)
A mudroom is lockers, a bench and tall storage built to take boots, coats and daily traffic without looking worn in a year. Main kitchens, basement second kitchens, vanities and closets make up most of the work here.

York runs from Junction semis to Weston and Mount Dennis detached houses, mostly early last century, with plaster walls and narrow rooms. Older homes usually give a back hall or a landing to work with, while newer builds hand over a purpose-built mudroom between the garage and the kitchen. Stairs turn at a landing and halls are tight, so runs are split into boxes sized for that turn and jointed on site. We measure the entry, build and finish the run in our shop, then deliver, level it on a plinth and scribe the ends to the floor and wall.
Older houses in York have moved since they were built, so scribe stiles and site-cut fillers are part of the design from the first drawing.

Can a mudroom be built into a narrow back hall in York?
Often yes. A shallow run of hooks, a bench and a tall unit at one end works in a hall where full lockers would block the path. We measure the clear width at step 01 and draw the shallowest version that still holds coats and boots.
Do you build around the garage door threshold?
Yes. The threshold, the step and the door swing are recorded at the measure, and the plinth and end panel are drawn to clear them. Nothing is cut until you have seen it in the rendering.
Can you build a second kitchen in the basement?
Yes. We design to the ceiling height under the lowest duct, use the sink and vent positions already there where we can, and keep the tall units clear of the beam. Any [second suite requirements from the City] are for the owner or the builder to confirm before the cabinetry is ordered.
The walls in my house are plaster and nothing is straight. Does that change the job?
It changes time on site rather than the cabinets themselves. We add scribe stiles at the ends of each run and oversize the fillers, then cut them to the wall during the install. The itemized quote carries the install as its own line so you can see what that stage covers.
